This tour combines a visit to the charming waterside villages of Marken & Volendam which is known for its traditional Dutch customs and Edam which is famous for its cheese. A delightful itinerary for those who prefer the countryside.
Meet and greet your private driver/guide then depart on a scenic drive, passing by dikes, rivers and locks and a windmill. We shall drive to different typical Dutch Fishermen Villages.
Your first stop will be at Marken, which used to be an island. A very small en picturesque village. Their first wooden houses were built in the 13th Century on artificial hills in order to keep their feet dry during the floods. After a walking tour we shall continue to Volendam. On the way you shall stop at a Cheese & Clog Farm – sample some of their many cheeses and see the farmers who still wear their traditional costumes.
You arrive in Volendam, another picturesque village where you can sample a specialty, smoked eel. Perhaps you would like to see a diamond cutter, or have your photo taken in a traditional costume. These are the possibilities in Volendam. While you are here you also have time for lunch.
Continue your tour to the Zaanse Schans, the Windmill Village. This open-air museum was created to save traditional windmills from destruction when industrialization began. Here you can visit many handicrafts such as: a wooden-shoemaker, see how they make them – see a Delft Blue painter at work – visit a diamond cutter and see how they make those 57 facets!
Enjoy a walking tour among the different types of windmills plus see 44 wooden houses that date from the 17th and 18th century. You have the opportunity to enter a windmill and see how it works. Return to Amsterdam later this afternoon.
The tour is 8 hrs for 5-6 passengers. The price is per van and not per person. We drive in a Chrysler Voyager Grand with double air/co and plenty of leg space. Please ask for prices for 6-7 persons or more.
Entrance fees and food are not included.
